Alice Cooper

I had seen many rock stars carried out of parties but Alice Cooper was the first one I witnessed carried into one. It was after an outdoor show at Calgary’s McMahon stadium and all the liggers were waiting at a club called the Moose Factory. The owners had agreed to open up after hours for the private party.

My friend Mick from WEA records was nervously waiting Alice’s arrival as he was only authorized to pick up the drinks tab if Alice showed, and Alice was late, very late and there was already a good number of people drinking on what they thought was the record companies tab.

This was during Alice’s heavy drinking days and there was a good chance that he had already passed out and would be a no-show. Mick was in the middle of formulating a plan to exit the club without being seen when there was a commotion at the entrance. Alice had arrived and had indeed passed out but was being carried in on the shoulders of four big strapping roadies much to the delight of everyone present. He woke up just as he was placed into a chair at our table. Mick said just one word. “Champagne?” Alice replied, “Of course!”, and the party was on.
