Ian Andersen, Jethro Tull

I am pretty sure this is the first photo shoot for me at the Vancouver Coliseum, probably 1971. I think it was on spec for the Georgia Straight Newspaper. I also think I only got ten bucks for the shot and I had to supply the film, contact sheets and prints. Those were the days.

I cannot recall if it was over this shot or another when I had my little set-to with Bob Geldof (now Sir Bob). For a very brief time he was the photo editor of the Georgia Straight and I remember him bitching and moaning at me for providing only one contact sheet of a band from a previous nights concert. I replied with a “What the hell do you expect for only ten bucks?” His retort was “A lot f**king more then you’re prepared to give me, matey.” Then it was from me a “Get stuffed. I’m already working for next to free.” We didn’t get on.

In my fuzzy recollection of the concert the only thing that really stands out was Ian’s ability to stand balanced on one leg for most of the show.
