Jeff Beck

I had a friend who was really into Jeff Beck. He was his favourite of all the Yardbirds alumni. He was certainly more jazz oriented than Clapton or Page, and unfortunately a lot less popular as far as record sales were concerned.

I was quite excited when he teamed up with Jan Hammer and preformed at the Vancouver Gardens auditorium. Unfortunately the concert never lived up to my expectations. I can’t remember exactly what it was but I do remember going away slightly disappointed. (It was the seventies and there are lots of fuzzy periods.) The shots I could find from that concert are lousy as well. I could only find a small box of slides and they all look like over-exposed out-takes.

He preformed again in Vancouver this time at the prestigious Orpheum Theatre. This was a great show. The sound was perfect, and loud. The only disappointment and only from a photographers point of view was that the lighting was lousy. It was mostly lit in blue, not a flattering colour at best and very low in intensity. I had to wait until they threw some white and red to get any shots at all and for what ever reason they only used that combination rarely throughout the show.

The shot above is from the Orpheum concert.
